PAWNEE – Alfred Eugene "Doc" Underwood, 88, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. He was born June 18, 1928, in Springfield, the son of Everett W. and Julia M. Miller Underwood. He married Delores M. Masley-Ramza in 1980 in Cambridge. Doc was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores, in 2015; and a brother Everett Underwood Jr. in 1998.
Doc graduated from Pawnee High School in 1947 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid, the American Legion, AMVETS, the Fraternal Order of Elks, Moose Lodge and VFW. Doc worked for General Telephone Co. in Kewanee for 29 years, retiring in 1984. He then worked for the Rock Island Arsenal from 1985-90. Doc enjoyed fishing.
Doc is survived by one son, Michael A. Underwood, of Clearwater, Florida; three stepsons, Richard (wife, Kate) Ramza of Moline, Brian (wife, Susie) Ramza of Mission Woods, Kansas and Justin T. Ramza of Rockford; one daughter, Debra A. (husband, Norm) Marshburn, of Palm Harbor, Florida; two stepdaughters, Cari (husband, Brian) Partridge of Grapevine, Texas and Teri (partner, Patrick Dowling) Parker of Chatham; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman L. "Sapp" (partner, Marilyn Fitzpatrick) Underwood of Pawnee; and one sister, Judy (husband, Roger) Hill, of Grapevine, Texas.
Doc's family will meet friends at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid. Monsignor David Lance will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
