Springfield — Barbara Jean Langley, 78, of Springfield, Illinois, went to be home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024. She passed away at her home in Springfield. She was born March 25, 1946, in Kankakee, the daughter of Raymond J. and Edna M. Smith Rivard. She married Robert L. Langley on July 20, 1991, in Springfield. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael J. Rivard, in 2019.

Barbara graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Kankakee in 1964 and from Kankakee Business College. She worked in secretarial roles for the state of Illinois for several agencies, including for the former Illinois Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities and substance abuse division, retiring in 2003.

Barbara attended Cherry Hills Church in Springfield, volunteered at HSHS St. John's Hospital and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered for the Animal Protective League and loved working with animals and spending time with her cats. Barbara was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and using her talents to cross stitch, needlepoint and crochet.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert, of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Susan L. Schrodt of Sheffield Village, Ohio, and Kelly A. (husband, Devin) Koppie of Baraboo, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Danielle J. Wacker, Jessica D. Schrodt, Bo H. Koppie and Melanie R. Koppie; two great-grandchildren, Grayson B. Slater and Emerson Wacker; two sisters, Theresa M. (husband, David) Lintecum of Mesa, Arizona, and Judith A. (husband, Timothy) Ziemer of Palmer, Alaska; one sister-in-law, Agnes M. Rivard, of Bradley, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Kelly Lintecum, Amy Kleve, Ryan Ziemer, Kellie Richmond, Jaimie Burke, Brenda Balinquit, Michelle Rivard and Renee Harling; and cousin and best friend, Leora Smith.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Virden Cemetery, with Pastor Chad Resser officiating.
