PAWNEE — Barbara Ann McElroy, 79, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield. She was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Auburn, the daughter of John F. and Helen M. Reihley Hickey. Barb married Robert D. "Zeb" McElroy on July 11, 1958, in Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Zeb, in 2012; and her son, Terry, in 2011. Barb was a member of the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee. She attended Divernon High School. Barb was the oldest of five children and raised her brother and sister after their mother died. She was a beautician for more than 50 years, operating Barb's Coral Room from her house. Barb loved to travel and spend time with her friends and pets. Barb is survived by a daughter, Vonda A. Dougherty, of Pawnee; a son, Rodney W. McElroy, of Pawnee; 11 grandchildren, Josh (wife, Jamie) McElroy, Justin (wife, Danielle) McElroy, Tyler McElroy, Terry Joe (wife, Mindy) McElroy, Taylor McElroy (companion, Taylor Stanton), Jordan McElroy, Jake McElroy, Derek Horrighs, Jennifer Rae Dougherty, John Robert (wife, Jessica) Dougherty and Jessica Dougherty; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita M. (husband, Steve) Miller of Glenarm and Debbie Allen of Florida; one brother, Tom E. Hickey, of Florida; and two nieces, Brandy and Amye Sandidge. Barb's family will meet friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee, with Rev. A.B. Bennett officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
