SPRINGFIELD — Betty Rose Fafoglia, 98, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. She was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Springfield, the daughter of Elmer S. and Vanetta E. Brown McMullen. Betty married Gino "Gene" Fafoglia on Sept. 1, 1944, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gino, in 2010; two sisters, Alma Cordier and Mary Jane Chapman; and two brothers, John and Elmer McMullen.
Betty was a 63-year member of the Church of the Little Flower. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also stayed active throughout her life, bowling a perfect 300 game and hitting a hole-in-one at Bergen Golf Course when she was 80 years old.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Carol (husband, Jack) Hoban, of The Villages, Florida; three sons, Ron E. (wife, Cheri) Fafoglia, Steve (wife, Joan) Fafoglia and Jeff (wife, Y Pham) Fafoglia, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Shelley Waitkus and Jennifer Hinkson, both of Florida; Abigail Doherty of Kansas City, Kansas; Robert and Keenan Fafoglia, both of Springfield; Rebecca Salah of O'Fallon; and Katherine Skovgarrd of Aurora, Colorado; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Eva Reilly, of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty's family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Church of the Little Flower, with Rev. Al Kemme officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
