Obituary

Virden — Charles "Chuck" Anderson, 69, of Virden, Illinois, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at his home in Virden, two days before he would have celebrated his 70th birthday. Chuck was born March 23, 1951, in Chicago. He was raised at the Maryville Academy in Des Plaines with four of his six siblings. He later reconnected with his younger brother Fred Vanhuizen of Manteno. Richard Alderson of Springfield was Chuck's best friend since childhood. In 2019, Chuck moved to Springfield, sharing a house with his niece, Pamela. A lover of animals, and dogs in particular, Chuck often housesat and watched pets for friends, usually while wearing a cap representing either the Chicago Bears or his beloved Chicago Cubs. He had recently moved into an apartment of his own in Virden, bought a car and was on the cusp of getting a dog of his own, even though he would claim co-ownership of his family and friends' pets, especially Wilma and Scuppers. Chuck knew no strangers — they were only friends he had not yet met. Chuck is survived by his dear friend, Charlene Runkles, of Springfield; one niece, Pamela Gray, of Virden; one nephew, Ken (Jodi) Gray, of Wauconda; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702. Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee is serving the family of Chuck Anderson. Online condolences may be expressed at www.curryfh.com.
