Obituary

Springfield — Courtney Lawrence Dickason, 76, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Court was born July 6, 1949, in Springfield, the son of Janet R. Dickason. He married Lynne M. Becker on Sept. 27, 1974, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Dickason.

Court graduated from Springfield High School in 1968 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. He received several medals and commendations for his service, including the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Actions First Class Color). He was proud of his Marine Corp. service, and it remained a defining part of his life.

Court's work ethic was evident early on, beginning at age 13 when he started working at his family's business, Madison Furniture. After returning from military service, he dedicated more than six decades to leading the store, proudly serving Springfield and surrounding communities until his retirement in 2023. His commitment to his customers and his community left a lasting mark that will be remembered for generations.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 32.

Court is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynne Dickason, his children, Jennifer L. Dickason and Drew R. (wife, Kala) Dickason, two grandchildren, Kainan and Khloe, all of Springfield; one brother, Allen C. (wife, Barbara) Dickason, of Carmel, California; two sisters, Debra G. Dickason of Springfield and Wendy A. (husband, Terrence) Call of Coffeen, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Barry (wife, Patty) Becker, of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Court's family welcomes everyone to attend a celebration of life at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at the Firefighters Lake Club at 940 W. Lake Shore Drive in Springfield.
