Springfield — Daniel Bryan Schull, 74, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 13, 2025, while in hospice care at the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Springfield. Dan was born Nov. 3, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of John A. and Ramona Goldberg Schull. He married Nancy Jane Mathes on March 1, 1976, in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan graduated from the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and Illinois College in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in American history. He worked as an eligibility case worker for the Illinois Department of Human Services for 45 years. He also was active as a union steward and was a member of the Illinois Council of the Blind. Dan was a longtime member of the Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation (ALUUC) in Springfield. He had a remarkable memory and loved music, trivia, bowling, sports and politics.

Dan is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Springfield; one son, Dan Schull II, of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Donna M. Mathes and Judith Mathes, both of Springfield; one brother-in-law, Michael Mathes, of Springfield; four nieces and one nephew.

Dan's family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 2960 Stanton St. in Springfield, with Rev. Lindsey Young officiating. A private burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at ALUUC.
