Pawnee — Darrell Lee Hemphill, 53, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, at his home in Pawnee. He was born March 30, 1971, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the son of Gene and Carolyn M. Priebe Hemphill. He married Crystal Renee Coleman on April 20, 1991, in Davenport, Iowa. Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents and his aunt, Barbara Buennig.

Darrell was a member of Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee and had attended U-Turn Life Center Church in Springfield. He graduated from North High School in Davenport in 1989 and Wyoming Technical School in Laramie, Wyoming, with an associate degree. He was employed with LKQ Keystone Automotive in Springfield for the past 15 years.

Darrell loved to read and enjoyed his rescue dogs. He was an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeyes football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Colorado Avalanche hockey team, NASCAR and the NHRA. He collected Hot Wheels, enjoyed remote control cars and loved going to flea markets and antique shopping.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Crystal, of Pawnee; one sister-in-law, Tamara (husband, Nick) Murray, of Lowden, Iowa; two nieces; one nephew; two cousins; and his rescue dog, Hank.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Darrell's family will meet friends from 5 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, at Pawnee Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Carol Creech officiating.
