Pawnee — Darrell Charles Iversen, 83, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Darrell was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Clarence E. and Sarah K. Rhinesmith Iversen. He married Sandra Jo Sporer May 5, 1956, in Springfield. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra, in 2018; his son Darrell Jr.; and two brothers, Reid and Derwin Iversen.
Darrell retired from Illinois Bell Telephone after 35 years of service and was a member of IBEW Local 21. He was a graduate of Springfield High School, where he was a running back on the football team, and it was said he was one of the fastest runners in Springfield. He loved to watch any kind of race, was an avid reader and loved to garden.
Darrell is survived by three sons, Mark (companion, Debbie Bowen) Iversen of Pawnee, Gregory (wife, Tamara) Iversen of Springfield and Todd Iversen of Pawnee; two daughters, Cynthia (husband, Steven) Jones of Pawnee and Monica (husband, Charles) Keran of Springfield; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. Burial will follow at noon at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
