SPRINGFIELD – David Murl Patton, 75, of Springfield, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield.
David was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Albany, Kentucky, the son of Billie and Anna Smith Patton. David married Esther A. Brewer on Sept. 25, 1965, in Hillsboro, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
David was a member of Calvary Church in Springfield, where he was an usher and member of the board and other committees. He was U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. David was a contractor and owned the David M. Patton Construction Co. He retired after 38 years.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Springfield; his son, Donavon D. (wife, Kara) Patton, of Springfield; his grandson, Gavin Patton; one brother, Robert "Bob" Patton of Springfield; a sister, Eva (husband, Bill) Curtis of Thayer, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
David's family will meet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at Calvary Church, 1730 W. Jefferson St., Springfield, IL 62702. The Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors beginning at 4 p.m. at the church. An additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at the church with Rev. Mark Johnson, Rev. Paul Rose and Rev. Dr. Wilbur Stone officiating. Burial will at Old Salem Cemetery.
