Waverly — Deanna Mechelle Planitz, 60, of Waverly, Illinois, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Deanna was born March 7, 1966, in Alton, the daughter of Claude W. and Ora M. Carter Rains. She married Andrew J. Planitz on May 1, 2003, in Winchester. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, George Morton; two sisters, Vickie Chappell and Robin Ruzika; a nephew, Donnie McKee; and a niece, Lori Chappell.

Deanna graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1984. She was member of the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee and volunteered at the Autism Clinic as an office secretary in Springfield. She was previously employed at Cingular Wireless before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Deanna loved cooking, shopping and hosting family gatherings with her children, especially during the Christmas season.

She is survived by her husband, Andy Planitz, of Waverly; three sons, Pvt. Joshua A. Planitz, U.S. Army, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Jeremy A. Planitz of Carlinville and Jordan A Planitz of DuQuoin; one brother, David A. (wife, Becky) Rains, of Anna, Texas; one sister, Claudia A. (husband, Terry) Bonds, of Gibson City; and several nieces and nephews, including Julie Fee and Jennifer Chappell, Sarah Rains and Jessica Rains, John McKee and Evan Rodderick, Jody (wife, Jennifer) Bonds and Chad (wife, Dana) Bonds; and several great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

Deanna’s family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at Pawnee Assembly of God Church, with Rev. A.B. Bennett and Rev. Don Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
