Springfield — Debra Lynn Simpson, 61, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at her home in Springfield. Debra was born May 21, 1964, in Springfield, the daughter of Larry T. and Sharon L. Mackanin Dukes. She married Dale Simpson on March 9, 1996, at Pawnee Christian Church in Pawnee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Craig Dukes.

Debra attended Lanphier High School and was a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan. She loved camping, family gatherings and especially time spent with her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. Debra was self employed as a housekeeper for several years. Fall was her favorite season, with Halloween being her favorite time. She enjoyed fall festivals, craft fairs, flea markets, antique shopping and the simple joys of being surrounded by those she loved.

Debra is survived by her husband, Dale Simpson, of Springfield; two sons, Eric T. (wife, Ashley) Burgess of Franklin and Matthew R. (wife, Lindsay) Burgess of Divernon; three grandchildren, Ashten, Brayden and Maysey Burgess; an aunt, Arlene (Doe) Mackanin, of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Debra's family will greet friends Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., concluding with a memorial service at 5 p.m. at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, with Rev. David Swihart officiating. A private burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee at a later date.
