SPRINGFIELD – Donald Leslie Bernstein, 76, of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Chatham, Illinois, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Don was born Sept. 16, 1940, in Springfield, the son of Herman and Geneva M. Bozarth Reisch Bernstein. Don married Kay Daley on April 6, 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Kay in 1992; his stepfather, Albert Reisch; his daughter Kelly (husband, Kevin) Moore in 2010; four brothers, Jack, Fred, Bob Bernstein and Bill Reisch. Don was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Springfield where he loved to be the navigator of the church van and where he enjoyed bringing candy to other church members each week. Don was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran. Don worked as a Hot Roofer and owned his own painting business for over 20 years. Don is survived by his five daughters, Sharon K. Bernstein, Shannon M. (husband, Kevin) Londrigan, Carrie S. Martinez, Candy L. (husband, Jason) Copelin and Sarah A. (husband, Tadd) Moorehead; three brothers, William and Larry Bernstein and Carl Reisch; 12 grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Buckley, Mick and Noah Londrigan, Daniel Moore, Ash, Luke and Eliana Martinez, Kaylee, Alyssa and Ty Copelin, Brendan and Adalyn Moorehead; and several nieces and nephews. Don's family will meet friends from noon until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at the First Christian Church, Sixth and Cook streets, Springfield, IL 62703, with Rev. Rick Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Chatham Community Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Memorials honoring Don may be made to St. John's Breadline, 430 N. Fifth St., Springfield, IL 62702. Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee is serving the family of Don Bernstein.
