TOVEY — Donald Ray Cody Sr., 86, of Tovey, Illinois, formerly of Pawnee, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Don was born Jan. 18, 1936, in Glenarm, the son of John H. and Ruth E. Dale Cody. He married Marjorie A. Wilson April 2, 1955, in Auburn. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Don Cody Jr.; three brothers, Bill, Bruce and Kenneth Cody; and one sister, Betty Toler. Don attended Ball Township schools and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Pawnee Christian Church, where he served as an elder. He also was a member of Chatham AMVETS Post 61. Don worked at Big R in Taylorville for 15 years, retiring as a manager in 1999. He loved farming and worked on several area farms, including the Fry and Sheedy farms. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marge; one son, Bill W. (wife, Arglene) Cody, of Pawnee; one daughter, Kim A. (husband, Charlie) Geary, of Tovey; four grandchildren, Zach, Jacelynn, Jessie and Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Lilly and Jeffrey; two brothers, David A. Cody of Divernon and Doug J. (wife, Donna) Cody of Springfield; three sisters, Barb J. (husband, Dave) McTaggart of Chatham, Sharon S. (husband, Butch) Landrey of Pawnee and Shelley J. Harris of Pawnee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Don's family will meet friends from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Pawnee Christian Church in Pawnee, with Pastor Steve Landrey officiating. The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors at the church following the funeral service. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee at a later date.
