Obituary

Pawnee — Donna Jean Hasse, 85, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Taylorville. Donna was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Chesterfield, the daughter of Earnest P. and Margaret A. Randolph Lewis. She married Gerald J. Hasse on June 8, 1963, in Clifton. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

Donna was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and the Chatham Prairie Quilters in Chatham. She graduated from Greenfield High School as valedictorian and Western Illinois University with her master's degree in education. Donna was an elementary school teacher in Chatham for 34 years.

Donna cherished time with her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother. A self-described farm girl, she enjoyed the outdoors, excelled at sewing, loved reading and completed the New York Times crossword daily. She also volunteered for over 16 years at Springfield's Festival of Trees.

Donna is survived by her husband, Jerry, of Pawnee; her daughter, Melanie D. (husband, Scott) Dixon, of Glen Ellyn; two grandchildren, Bobbi and Hannah; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with Rev. Joe Molloy officiating.
