Dorothy Eileen Wallace, 92, of Pawnee, Ill., died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her son's home in Pawnee. Dorothy was born March 3, 1925, in Girard, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Margaret G. Gardner Grimmett. She married Kenneth Leroy Grooms on Nov. 11, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo. She then married Irvin L. Bettis in 1958. He died in 1983. She married James "Jim" B. Wallace in 1989. He preceded her in death in 2005. She also was preceded in death by her son Ron Grooms; her daughter, Betty Bettis; two sisters; two brothers; a niece, Bobby Jo Thomas; and a grandson, Thomas Bettis. Dorothy attended Pawnee Christian Church. She attended grade school near Boston Chapel, Ill., and graduated from Girard High School. She retired as a mail clerk at Fiat-Allis in Springfield in 1985 when the manufacturer closed. She also worked at Horace Mann, retiring in 2003. She is survived by her son, Richard L. (wife, Sue) Grooms, of Pawnee; two stepsons, Ralph E. (companion, Marlene) Wallace of Springfield and Stephen A. (wife, Connie) Wallace of Chester, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Sue (husband, Steven) Unsworth, of Auburn, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-granchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy's family will meet friends Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, at the funeral home with Rev. Aaron Griffith officiating.
