SPRINGFIELD – Edith M. "Peg" Newenham, 84, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, in Springfield. Peg was born March 10, 1934, in Springfield, the daughter of William H. and Lucy R. Shelly Dowis. She married Charles K. Newenham Jr. on June 21, 1958, at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield. Peg was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles K. Jr.; her son, Charles K. Newenham III; three brothers; four sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Tandra Murphy.
Peg graduated from Feitshans High School in 1952. She was a lifelong member of the Knox Presbyterian Church and the American Postal Workers Union Auxiliary. She worked at S.A. Barker as a sales clerk for 25 years and the Franklin Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1995. Her greatest joy was raising her three children and grandchildren.
Peg is survived by two daughters, Cynthia K. Murphy and Shelly L. Hughes; one daughter-in-law, Jean Newenham; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Adam and Peter Hughes; one brother, Ralph W. Dowis; two sisters, Janice Grove and Willa Spoonamore; and several nieces and nephews.
Peg's family is extremely grateful to Gustavo Mosquera, M.D., and his amazing nurse Janie.
Private internment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
