Pawnee — Gayle Marie Curtis, 67, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 8, 1955, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Carla Millburg Comerford. Gayle married Charles "Chuck" W. Curtis on June 15, 1979, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pawnee. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gayle graduated from Pawnee High School in 1973. She worked at Springfield Memorial Hospital in the billing department for 21 years. Gayle loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Gayle is survived by her husband of 44 years, Chuck Curtis, of Pawnee; one son, Christopher W. (wife, Jennifer) Curtis, of Pawnee; two daughters, Jennifer L. (husband, Brian) Herman of Pawnee and Ashley N. Curtis of Springfield; four grandchildren, Chase, Kobe, Marianna and Latessa; five brothers, Brent (wife, Peggy) Comerford of Pawnee, Randy (wife, Robin) Comerford of Colorado, Kent (wife, Karen) Comerford of Riverton, Brad (wife, Wendy) Comerford of Berlin, New York, and Barry (wife, Carrie) Comerford of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Dawn (husband, Bob) Bartolazzi, of Auburn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gayle's family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, with Rev. James Palakudy officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
