Obituary

SPRINGFIELD — James "Jim" Thomas Cantrall, 75, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home in Springfield. He was born April 23, 1946, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, the son of Verney J. and Bette M. Zulauf Cantrall. Jim married Donna Lee Broaddus on Sept. 25, 1995, in Forsyth, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Christine Johnson, in 2021. Jim graduated from Springfield High School in 1964 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a building supervisor at Roland Properties in Springfield. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved to go quail hunting with his dogs. He also enjoyed dirt track racing. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. Jim is survived by his wife, Donna, of Springfield; one son, James V. Cantrall, of Springfield; two stepsons, Kevin (wife, Sarah) DalPozzo of Staunton and Keith (wife, Angie) DalPozzo of Sorento; one grandson, Bradley J. Johnson, of Sparta; four stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaugter; one brother, Verney J. (wife, Tena) Cantrall, of Glenarm; and one nephew, Eli Cantrall, of New City. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with the Department of Defense and Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County conducting military honors.
