James "Jim" Melvin Stadtman, 66, of Springfield, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield. Jim was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Springfield, the son of Charles J. and Marjorie A. Slagle Stadtman. He married Donna E. Boone on Dec. 31, 1984, in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his father.
Jim was of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1968 and worked as a mechanic for 26 years, retiring from the Springfield Fire Department in 2004. He was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the International Association of Firefighters Local 37 and the Firefighters-Postal Lake Club in Springfield.
Jim is survived by his wife, Donna, of Springfield; his mother, of Chatham; two sons, James R. Stadtman of Springfield and Chris C. (wife, Allison) Stadtman of Loami; one daughter, Tiffany L. Stadtman, of Lovington, Ill.; three grandchildren, Dalton, Corbin and Raelyn; one sister, Susan (husband, Ron) Riggle, of Springfield; one brother, Stephen C. Stadtman, of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at the Firefighters-Postal Lake Club, 940 W. Lake Shore Drive, Springfield, IL 62712.
