JoEllen (Jody) Brooks-Mathis, 64, of Pawnee, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at her home. Jody was born Aug. 8, 1951, in Taylorville, Ill., the daughter of Delmar and Rosemary Jones DeVore. She married Arthur Brooks on April 11, 1974, in Sharpsburg, Ill., and he preceded her in death in November 1990. She also was preceded by her parents, and her brother, Ben DeVore, in January 2013. She married Marvin K. Mathis on August 10, 1991 in Pawnee, Ill., and he survives. Jody was a graduate of Stonington High School's class of 1969 and was a member of the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee. She worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid and Human Resources for 35 years, retiring in 2004. In addition to her husband, Marvin, Jody is survived by two daughters, Kim D. (husband, Jeff) Nichols and Angie M. (husband, Troy) Koyne, both of Pawnee; two stepsons, Brian K. (wife, Tracey) Mathis of Rochester, Ill., and Bradley S. (wife, Connie) Mathis of Ringgold, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Evan (wife, Hannah) of Ringgold, Ga., Ashley (husband, Jonathan) Pankey, of Rocky Face, Ga., Austin, Ryan and Evan Mathis of Rochester, Ill., Kameron and Jory Nichols, of Pawnee and Hailey and Dakoda Koyne, of Pawnee; one great-grandchild, Cashus Smith, of Ringgold, Ga; two nieces, Venise (husband, Dean) McWard, of Taylorville and Leslie DeVore, of Stonington, Ill.; and one great-nephew, Jacob McWard, of Taylorville. Jody's family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at the Pawnee Assembly of God Church. The Rev. A.B. Bennett and Rev. Lamoin Lytle will officiate. Burial will be at Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, Ill.. Memorials honoring Jody may be made to a scholarship fund for her grandchildren at the United Community Bank. Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee is serving the family of Jody Brooks-Mathis.
