Waverly – John Albert Killebrew, 82, of Waverly, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019, at his home in Waverly, surrounded by his family. John was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Murrayville, the son of Albert and Isabell Smock Killebrew. John married Wanda Lee Bridges Jan. 26, 1958, at the Franklin Christian Church in Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen Roach.
John was a U.S. Army veteran and a farm mechanic his entire life. He retired in the late 1980s. He was a member of the former Waverly Masonic Lodge #118 and past member of the Waverly VFW.
John is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Waverly; one son, John E. (wife, Andrea) Killebrew of Waverly; one daughter, Cathy J. (husband, Myron) Shafer, of Waverly; four grandchildren, Jessi, Brad, Maggie and Savanah; two stepgrandchildren, Aaron and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Adia, Casey, Avia, Jayla, Hallie and Delillah; and one step great-granddaughter, Hannah; two sisters, Dorothy F. Riffey of Kansas and Martha Schofield of Murrayville; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at Bull Cemetery in Franklin.
Memorials honoring John may be made to the American Legion Post #262, 136 E. State St., Waverly, IL 62692; Bull Cemetery, 419 Pecan, Carlinville, IL 62626; and the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, 160 S. Prospect St., Waverly, IL 62692.
