John Alvin Robinson, 82, of Springfield, Ill., formally of Jacksonville, Ill., passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. John was born July 15, 1932, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., the son of Harole B. and Madge A. Hayes Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Krisi in 1987. He married Carol A. Smith in Evanston, Ill. in 1974. John attended the Lakeside Church of Christ in Springfield. He had worked for Genco Corp. and retired from Precision Steel Company in Chicago after 16 years of service. John was a Graduated from the Illinois School for the Blind (now ISVI) in 1952. He enjoyed listing to the radio, sports, country music and his talking book collection. John and his wife moved into the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Springfield in 2011. John is survived by his wife Carol, of Springfield; one son, Ken (wife, Kim) Robinson, of Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Sandy (husband, David) Smeenk, of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Marge E. (husband, Walter) Hamilton, of Charlotte, N.C. and Belva A. (husband, Dick) Rowe of Bonnie, Ill.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. John's family will meet friends on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Mary Bryant Home at 2960 Stanton St. in Springfield with Rev. Will Perkins officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Springfield at a later date.
