CHANDLERVILLE — John Thomas Ushman Jr., 89, of Chandlerville, Illinois, formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, at Heritage Health of Beardstown. John was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Springfield, the son of John T. and Annabelle Wood Ushman Sr. He married Marjorie Lee Givens on Dec. 15, 1957, at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Wayne Ushman in 2020; and a brother, Donald Ushman.
John was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea, for which he received the Korean Service Medal, with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.
John owned Marge Market and Quick Silver Engraving, both in Mechanicsburg, and Marge Country Care in Rochester. He was a member of the Ansar Legion of Honor, Painters Local 90 in Springfield and was a 32nd degree Mason with the Springfield Lodge No. 4, A.F. & A.M.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska and Canada. He and his wife loved traveling around the world. He also was a huge NASCAR fan.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marge, of Chandlerville; one son, Keith E. Ushman, of Manchester; one sister, Norma J. Renz, of St. Peters, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec 22, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with military honors by the Department of Defense and Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
