Joni Renee Spencer, 53, of Divernon, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Joni was born May 21, 1963, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert L. and Myrna J. Canaday Newenham. She married Ronald E. Spencer on June 28, 1986, in Springfield. Joni was preceded in death by her father, Robert. Joni spent the majority of her career in the insurance business and most recently was an insurance underwriter for The United Fire Group. She was a 1980 graduate of Lanphier High School in Springfield and a 1984 graduate of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Joni is survived by her husband, Ron, of Divernon; her mother, Myrna Newenham, of Springfield; two sons, Jason R. (fiancée, Cassie Smith) Spencer of Portland, Oregon, and Colten J. Spencer of Divernon; her brother, Kirk R. (Gayle Suarez-Gatons) Newenham, of Chatham; her sister, Vickie J. (husband, Tom) Storm, of Nashville, Tennessee; two nieces; one nephew and cousins. Joni's family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
