Joseph Magos, 88, of Pawnee, Ill., died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, Ill. He was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Tovey, Ill., the son of Steve and Mary Kopjo Magos. He married Dorothy P. Thomas on May 15, 1945, in Taylorville. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon Lee Fansler; and three brothers, Steve, John and Andy Magos. Joseph was a U.S. veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Joseph was a member of UMWA Local #9819. He worked for Peabody Coal Co.'s Mine #10 for 45 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked at Freeman United Crown #1 in Farmersville. Joseph is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Pawnee; a son, Danny Joe (wife, Patricia) Magos, of Tennessee; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private family service was held on Monday, March 12, with burial in Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pawnee Fire Dept., 711 8th St., P.O.
