SPRINGFIELD - Joyce May Nichols, 64, of Springfield, Ill., passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Joyce was born Feb. 3, 1951, in Canton, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Rosealee Bump Gentle. She married Thomas E. Nichols on Sept. 24, 1991, in Havana, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Canton High School and the Spoon River College. She retired from the banking industry and from the Springfield Clinic. Joyce was a member of the Central Illinois Mustangers. Joyce is survived by her husband, Tom, of Springfield; one daughter, Melissa A. (husband, Brian) Curry, of Springfield; 2 grandchildren; her brother, Larry (wife, Darla) Gentle, of Canton; two nephews and cousins. Joyce's family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2014, at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Rev. Rick Hector will officiate. Memorial contributions honoring Joyce may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Friends and family are encouraged to wear their green "Team Joyce" tee-shirts to the service in her honor. Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, Ill., is serving the family of Joyce M. Nichols.
