Kenneth Pape, 92, of Pawnee, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield. Kenneth was born June 30, 1924, in Chatham, the son of Louis H. and Reba Mae Davis Pape. He married Jerry L. Haire on April 17, 1948, at the Divernon Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Jane Ward; and a great-niece, Sheri Rae Miller-Ward. Kenneth was a member of the Pawnee Christian Church. He grew up on his family's farm. He raised a variety of livestock over the years and loved training and showing his Morgan horses. Kenneth delivered milk to local schools and stores, and he owned and operated the Sinclair and Marathon gas stations in Pawnee, delivering gasoline to area farmers. He retired in 1985. Kenneth and Jerry traveled extensively around the world. He is survived by Jerry, his wife of 68 years, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Kenneth's family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Curry Funeral in Pawnee. An additional visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at the Pawnee Christian Church with the Rev. Aaron Griffith officiating. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Memorials honoring Kenneth may be made to the Pawnee Christian Church, 1200 Rutledge St., Pawnee, IL 62558.
