Springfield — Kimberly Ann Curry, 68, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family. Kim was born May 11, 1958, in Springfield, the daughter of Maj. Gen. Harold G. and Delores J. Haynes Holesinger. She married Timothy P. Curry on Oct. 29, 1983, at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Kim graduated from Southeast High School in 1976 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She was the air show coordinator for Springfield Air Rendezvous for 14 years, from 1993 to 2007. She also was the accountability coordinator for ARA Food Service, conducted pre-K screenings for the Sangamon Area Special Education District, and became a stay-at-home mom after her daughter, Christy, was born.
Kim was a member of the Springfield Lake Shore Improvement Association; the International Council of Air Shows, from which she received several marketing awards; and the Ladies Auxiliary of Springfield Elks Lodge No. 158. Kim also attended weekly LIVESTRONG® classes at the YMCA, a small-group fitness program designed for adult cancer survivors. Kim truly was a survivor. She battled various cancers for more than 12 years but never lost her fighting spirit. She was known to many as “Kim Possible” for her positive outlook and indomitable spirit. You always knew where you stood with Kim, and if you had any doubts, she would let you know.
Kim loved her family first and foremost. Married to the love of her life, she and Tim made their home on Lake Springfield, where they loved welcoming friends and family, making memories and sharing relaxing days and evenings on the lake. She loved being Tim’s partner-in-crime, first mate and the life of the party. She was a wonderful, supportive mother to Christy and her No. 1 cheerleader, proud of her and all her accomplishments. She was thrilled to welcome her two granddaughters to the family and delighted to take on her role as Mimi.
Kim is survived by her husband of nearly 43 years, Tim Curry, of Springfield; her daughter, Christy Grupe, of Chatham; two granddaughters, Cecilia and Natalie; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Kim’s family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the funeral service begins at noon Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at Ellinger-Kunz Funeral Home, 530 N. Fifth St., in Springfield, with Rev. Larry Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Springfield.
