Obituary

Lawrence Eugene Boarman, 82, of Pawnee, Ill., passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, Ill. Lawrence was born June 2, 1930, in Pawnee, the son of Carl W. and Clara M. Molohon Boarman. He married M. Joan Adams Feb. 3, 1962, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springfield. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brother James; infant sister Betty Jean; sister-in-law Alice Boarman; niece Mary Pat Boarman; and step-grandson Joshua McCall. Lawrence graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru, Ill. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Lawrence was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid, Ill., and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pawnee. He farmed in Pawnee for many years, and he was a member of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau. Lawrence also was involved in many clubs and community organizations. He served as a Pawnee School District #11 board member for eight years, as a regional school board member for four years, as past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus #6379, as a member of Pawnee American Legion Post #586 and as a former member of VFW Post 15014. He was a member of the Bedan Club, Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Bishop Griffin Assembly Fourth Degree K of C. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Pawnee; three sons, Tom (wife, Cindy) Boarman, Mike (wife, Sheila) Boarman and Steve Boarman, all of Pawnee; two daughters, Betty (husband, Phil) McCall, of Rochester, Ill., and Carol (husband, Bill) Mathews, of Pawnee; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; a brother, Bill Boarman, of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Pat Boarman, of Pawnee; several brother- and sister-in-laws; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lawrence's family will meet friends Tuesday, May 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid with Rev. Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pawnee Food Pantry or to the Parkinson Association of Illinois, P.O.
