Pawnee — M. Joan Boarman, 82, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham. Joan was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Springfield, the daughter of Margaret M. Bogenschutz Adams. She married Lawrence E. Boarman Feb. 3, 1962, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Springfield. Joan was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Lawrence, in 2013; two brothers, Grant and Joe Adams; and a grandson Joshua McCall. Joan graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1956 and St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid, a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pawnee and a member of the Pawnee Catholic Women and Altar and Rosary Society. Joan and her husband farmed in Pawnee for many years, and she retired from Women's Healthcare in Springfield after 13 years. Joan also was involved with the Pawnee Food Pantry. She is survived by three sons, Tom (wife, Cindy) Boarman, Mike (wife, Sheila) Boarman and Steve Boarman, all of Pawnee; two daughters, Betty (husband, Phil) McCall of Rochester and Carol (husband, Bill) Mathews of Pawnee; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (wife, JoLynn) Adams of Springfield and Jay Adams of Sherman; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Boarman of Pawnee and Mary Ann Adams and Kay Adams, both of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan's family will meet friends Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Kincaid with Rev. Dan Willenborg officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, including wearing masks, observing social distancing and limiting attendance. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee.
