Obituary

PAWNEE — Margaret Diane Brown, 78, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Diane was born Feb. 25, 1943, in Springfield, the daughter of Berlin P. and Marie E. Sailor McCormick. She married Clarence Vernon Brown May 18, 1959, in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Lois Canfield; two brothers Ben and Pat McCormick; and a sister-in-law Rosie McCormick. She was a founding member of Pawnee Christian Church and taught Sunday School for several years. Diane received an associate degree in social work from Lincoln Land Community College. She worked at Bethesda Lutheran Home and at the Bridal Center, where she was a seamstress. Diane delivered Meals on Wheels, was a coordinator for the Angel Tree, was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a 25-year Girl Scout leader, and was a member of the PTA. She also coached Little League baseball and served as a camp counselor and cook. Over the years, she made countless quilts, cakes and bridal dresses for family and friends and crocheted more than 500 hats for HSHS St. John's Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. Diane is survived by her husband, Clarence "Vernie" Brown, of Pawnee; two sons, David (wife, Katy) Brown of Waverly and Vernon (wife, Kedra) Brown of Pawnee; two daughters, Sharolyn (husband, Kenyon) Bradley of Pawnee and Julie (husband, Mike) Davis of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren, Shannon Casson, Alex Brown, Emily Uhrich, Aubrey Bury, Dan Geisz, Zac Luth, Will Luth, Erin Lane, Rachel Kizziah, Adam Brown, Drew Brown, Keagan Brown, Kylie Brown and Jessie Boughton; 16 great-grandchildren, Henry, Brock and Danielle Casson, Hadley and Hazel Uhrich, Edison Bury, Camilia and Evelyn Geisz, Jarin, Grantlei, Liam and Landon Lane, Lincoln Kizziah, Eli Luth, and Warren and Ryan Boughton; two brothers, Jim McCormick of Springfield and Paul (wife, Jody) McCormick of Auburn; one sister, Carolyn McCormick-White, of Springfield; one sister-in-law, Diane McCormick, of Athens; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Diane's family will meet friends at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Pawnee Christian Church with Rev. Chris Covey officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Because of health concerns, the family requests that no cut flowers be sent and asks attendees to refrain from wearing perfumes or colognes.
