Pawnee — Margie Vivian Smith, 96, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Taylorville. Vivian was born March 1, 1930, in Mokane, Missouri, the daughter of Emir S. and Ethel M. Clingman Humphrey. She married Melvin W. Smith Jr. on Feb. 19, 1951, in New Franklin, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin, in 2000; and her three brothers, Glenn, Heskett and Bruce Humphrey.

Vivian graduated from Mokane High School in 1948. She was a member of Pawnee Christian Church in Pawnee. Her faith and her family played a big part in her life.

She is survived by her five sons, Mike (wife, Kris) Smith and Rod (wife, Nancy) Smith, both of Holts Summit, Missouri, Doug Smith of Hannibal, Missouri, and Mark Smith and Ken Smith, both of Pawnee; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Ralph Humphrey, of New Franklin, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin, Missouri.
