Mary C. McDannald, 96, of Pawnee, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Girard, Ill. Mary was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Schuyler County, Ill., the daughter of William and Nora A. Ridinger Avery. She married Lawrence E. McDannald on Jan. 28, 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence "Penny" in 1992; six brothers; five sisters and her son-in-law, Robert W. Lewis, in 1986. Mary worked at Nelson's Drugstore for 15 years as a clerk, and was a member of the Pawnee Chapter 436, Order of Eastern Star. Mary is survived by her daughter, Phyllis A. Lewis of Pawnee; three grandchildren, Roger A. (wife, Laurie) Lewis, of Mechanicsburg, Ill., Mark E. (wife, Scarlett) Lewis and Marcie (husband, Dale) Walters of Pawnee; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary's family will meet friends Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. The Rev. Aaron Griffith will officiate. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Memorial contributions honoring Mary may be made to the Pawnee Christian Church or the Pawnee Food Pantry.
