Pawnee — Melanie Lois Raleigh, 52, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Melanie was born March 16, 1966, in Litchfield, the daughter of George E. and Cherrill F. Smith Kimbro. She married Robert W. Raleigh Oct. 17, 1992, at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather. Melanie graduated from Raymond Lincolnwood High School in 1984. She attended Lincoln Land Community College and Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois Springfield), where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1990. She worked at Luers Uniforms and Shoes in Springfield for 30 years and purchased the business in 2016. Family was very important to Melanie. She was active in Pawnee High School's parent/teacher organization, and she attended many of her children's football and basketball games and activities. Melanie is survived by her husband, Rob, of Pawnee; one son, Nathan W. Raleigh, of Pawnee; one daughter, Katelyne L. Raleigh, of Pawnee; her parents, George and Cherrill Kimbro, of Waggoner; her grandmother, Virginia Smith, of Bethalto; one sister, Melissa F. Kimbro, of St. Louis; one brother, Martin E. (wife, Christa) Kimbro, of Waggoner; two nieces; four nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Melanie's family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. A private memorial service will be held later with Rev. A.B. Bennett officiating. Contributions honoring Melanie may be made to the Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway, Floor 4, New York, NY 10006-3111, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Protecting Animal Welfare Society 400 W.
