Pawnee — Michael Lynn Boone, 65, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Auburn Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Auburn, Illinois. Mike was born March 23, 1953, in Springfield, the son of Leonard R. and Wilma N. DeGroot Boone. He married Carol J. Dickerson Nov. 20, 2006, in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike graduated from Lanphier High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services in 2007 after 32 years of service. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting; was a fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr.; and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Mike is survived by his wife, Carol, of Pawnee; one son; one daughter; three sisters, Barbara (husband, Rich) Gentry and Mary (husband, Charles) Lauterbach, both of Springfield, and Cindy (husband, Steve) Williams of Arkansas; a special niece, Samantha Dickerson; two adopted grandkids, Caydence and Cayson Missey; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. Burial will be at a later date.
