SHERMAN — Opal Virginia Miller, 79, of Sherman, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Opal was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, the daughter of William E. and Virginia Shofner Dobson. She married John W. Miller on Aug. 6, 1981, in Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Walter L. Dobson and Woodrow Dobson.
Opal was a member of South Side Christian Church in Springfield. She graduated from Farmersville High School in 1959. She worked as a secretary at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. and retired from the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

Gigi loved spending time with them coloring, going to get Hardee's biscuits, playing school, and anything else her precious two could convince her to do. She always made sure they never left her care empty-handed and will be dearly missed by her granddaughters.
Opal is survived by her husband, John, of Sherman; one son, Todd D. (Pam) Tarr, of Pawnee; one stepson, Alex (Sherry) Miller, of Riverton; one stepdaughter, Laura Bull (Mike), of Springfield; two grandchildren, Courtney Schrage (Jonathan) of Pawnee and Katelyn Tarr of San Diego, California; two sisters, Katie Smith of Divernon and Mabel (husband, Barry) Marten of Williamsburg, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Brush Creek Cemetery in Divernon, with a celebration of life service to be held at a later date.
