PAWNEE — Phyllis J. Winks, 76, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Phyllis was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Springfield, the daughter of Richard Duit and Evelyn Kincaid West. She married Richard "Jay" Winks March 9, 1968, at the Pawnee United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Phyllis graduated from Pawnee High School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Her career as a registered nurse spanned 40 years, touching the lives of countless patients and co-workers. Her ability to provide calm in a storm was valued by all who knew her. She was an avid Cardinals fan, enjoyed traveling and was a talented seamstress and crafter. However, the thing she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and especially being a grandma.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Richard Ross (wife, Tonna) Winks Jr. of Ballwin, Missouri, and Jason R. (wife, Jill) Winks of Pawnee; two grandchildren, Clay Winks of Winchester and Tommy Winks of Pawnee; two brothers, Terry (wife, Sherry) Ward and John (wife, Sharon) Ward, both of Pawnee; one sister, Karen Baker, of Springfield; three stepsiblings, Roy B. (wife, Stacy) West III of Pawnee, Chris (wife, Danielle) West of Springfield and Libby (husband, Tim) Jenkins of Springfield; in-laws, Mary Lou (husband, Burr) Goodall of Jupiter, Florida, Ruth Ann (husband, John) Hawkins of DuQuoin and Charles (wife, Connie) Winks of Bloomington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation rites were accorded. No services are planned at this time because of the pandemic.
