PAWNEE — Richard "Rick" S. Maxey, 60, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at his home. Rick was born Oct. 21, 1960, in Springfield, the son of Edward C. and Geraldine "Gerry" A. Sexton Maxey. He married Diane K. Trader May 2, 1999, in Pawnee. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Maxey Sr., in 2018, and his daughter, Nicole "Nikki" Maxey, in 2016.
Rick graduated from Pawnee High School in 1979. He worked in construction, including for Kennedy Inc., Crown Trucking Inc. and United Contractors Midwest in Decatur for 15 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 916. Rick also was an active member of the Pawnee Lions Club, serving as president in 2008–09 and most recently as tail twister. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and especially enjoyed being outdoors and grilling.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Maxey, of Pawnee; one son, Brandon Maxey, of Pawnee; one grandson, Asher Maxey; three stepdaughters, Cristy (husband, Chris) Metz of Mount Sterling, Melissa Pleshe of Pawnee and Misty (husband, Shawn) Blake of Virden; four step grandchildren, Jared Fry, Jordon Burris, Haylee Pleshe and Macie Metz; his mother, Gerry Maxey, of Springfield; one brother, Edward C. (wife, LeeAnn) Maxey II, of Pawnee; three sisters, Kayla Maxey of Springfield, Gerri Lynn (husband, Randy) Murdock of Moline and Julie (husband, Tim) Smith of Salisbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021, at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee, with Rev. Aaron Griffith officiating.
