Obituary

Springfield — Robert "Bobby" William Maxey, 35, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1988, in Springfield, the son of William R. and Kathleen L. Durako Maxey. Bobby was preceded in death by his grandparents; one aunt, Mary Ann Durako; and one uncle, James Maxey.

Bobby graduated from St. Agnes Catholic School, Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in 2006 and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2010. He worked for the State of Illinois for about 10 years, including at the Illinois State Comptroller's office, the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Elizabeth Parsons Ware Packard Mental Health Center, all in Springfield.

He was a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer and was devoted to personal health, fitness and wellness. He loved visiting Colorado, hiking and cycling, and he enjoyed astronomy. He also volunteered locally with the Fishing Has No Boundaries program. Bobby loved spending time with his family and friends and was always concerned about others.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Kathy Maxey of Springfield; two sisters, Emily K. (husband, David) Drennan of Sherman and Elizabeth L. Maxey of Springfield; one niece, Eloise; one nephew, Eli; one aunt, Mary (husband, David) Moreland of Chatham; three uncles, Steve (wife, Fran) Durako of Silver Springs, Maryland, Jim Durako and Bob (wife, Deb) Durako, both of Springfield; and one cousin, Chris Maxey, of Austin, Texas.

A private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
