Pawnee — Robert "Bob" William King, 96, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Bob was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Glenarm, the son of Hobert B. and Eva A. Turner King. He married Juanita F. Gilpin on Nov. 20, 1949, in Pawnee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Juanita, in 2011; two brothers, Franklin and Homer King; one sister, Imogene King; three brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.

Bob attended Pawnee schools and Pawnee United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer, working on the family farm, retiring in 1992, although he still checked on David and Nathan on a regular basis.

Bob didn't know a stranger and could talk with anyone, and he loved to eat. When they raised chickens, he would ask Juanita to cook two chickens, one for the family dinner and one just for him. Bob was an avid arrowhead and marble collector and could spot either one from the seat of his tractor.

He is survived by four daughters, Brenda (husband, Warren) Ponsler, Peggy (husband, Brent) Comerford, Vicki (husband, Alan) Brewer, all of Pawnee, and Debbie (husband, Scott) Ogden of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, John (wife, Kelly) Comerford, Christine (husband, Keith) Peterson, Shawn Ponsler, Jillian (husband, Jerry) Westfall and Scott (wife, Kristy) Ponsler; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandsons, Jacob and Joseph (wife, Kelsie) Comerford, Zachary Peterson, Logan (wife, Ashtyn) Ponsler, Brody and Bryce Westfall and Oliver and Landrey Ponsler; two great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Ponsler and Camden Comerford; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Mae Blaum of Divernon and Barbara Wiles of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob's family will meet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Pawnee Christian Church in Pawnee, with an additional visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Pawnee Christian Church, with Rev. Bobby Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
