Ronald Lee Grooms, 69, of Pawnee, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. Ron was born Nov. 22, 1945, in Springfield, the son of Kenneth Leroy and Dorothy Eilean Grimmett Grooms. He married Sunny E. Pendland in 1969. Ron was preceded in death by his wife in 2013, his father in 1950 and a sister Betty Bettis. Ron graduated from Girard High School. He was laborer with Local 477 in Springfield. Ron was a shade tree mechanic, and was a member of the Springfield Road Runners Club and had served as president of the Challengers Car Club in Girard. Most recently, Ron owned and operated a fish trailer, serving fish dinners on Friday nights in Pawnee with his son Ken. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy, of Pawnee; two daughters, Annette J. (husband, Jeff) Johnson, of Naples, Fla. and Bobbi Jo Thomas, of Pawnee; a son, Kenneth R. Grooms, of Pawnee; one granddaughter, Amber Frazzano; one brother, Richard L. (wife, Sue) Grooms, of Pawnee and two nieces. Ron's family will meet friends on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. The Rev. Aaron Griffith will officiate.
