Obituary

Divernon — Stanley Lee Butzow, 81, of Divernon, Illinois, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Stan was born March 30, 1943, in Wellington, the son of Lewis G. and Vera A. McCray Butzow. He married Sallee J. Bork on May 8, 1971, at St. James Catholic Church in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ross; and his sister-in-law, Yvonne Butzow.

Stan graduated from Wellington High School in 1961, and he was a member of 4-H during high school. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Stan was a member of the Claytonville United Brethren Church in Claytonville, St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoopeston and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pawnee.

Stan was a dairy farmer for more than 50 years, working on his family's farm with his dad and brother until he retired in 2002. He also was a member of the Iroquois County Farm Bureau. In addition to farming, Stan was a school bus driver for schools in Wellington, Rossville and Pawnee for more than 50 years, and he worked at the Danville State Prison. Stan worked hard and liked to keep busy, but he also enjoyed taking a break and drinking his coffee.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sallee Butzow, of Divernon; two brothers, Ralph L. Butzow of Wellington and Norman G. (wife, Lois) Butzow of Milford; one sister-in-law, Joann Butzow, of Wellington; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Private graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, with Randy Williams officiating. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
