PAWNEE – Sylvia Gene "Nana" Dunaway, 74, of Pawnee, Ill., passed away peacefully on June 22, 2017, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by her family. Sylvia was born June 13, 1943, in Smithland, Ky., the daughter of Johnnie Marcela Hale. She married the love of her life, Harry Dunaway. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; and her sister Phyllis.
Sylvia was a cosmetologist. She was happiest when spending time with her family, friends and pets. Sylvia was a longtime member of the Pawnee United Methodist Church. She loved traveling the country with her partner-in-crime, Barbara Hart.
She is survived by her daughter, Candy Thompson; two granddaughters, Heidi Thompson and Kelsey (fiancé, Billy Leighton) Thompson; sisters Hazel (husband, Tommy) Basham and Sheila (husband, Robert) Thompson; and several nieces.
The family will hold a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Pawnee United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Kurfman officiating. Private burial services will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
