Glenarm — Thomas "Tom" Allyn Powers, 74, of Glenarm, Illinois, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home in Glenarm. Tom was born May 5, 1950, in Springfield, the son of John and Marion Bell Powers. He married Sherry J. Harriell on March 13, 1971, in Springfield. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Pete and brothers John and James; and two sisters, Jackie Southard and Peggy Carvalho.
Tom attended Springfield High School and Lanphier High School in Springfield before entering the U.S. Army. He retired in 2005 as a warehouse foreman at Bunn's Capital City Paper Co., after nearly 30 years of service. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to have a good time with family and friends. Tom loved his family unconditionally.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry, of Glenarm; two sons, Derek (wife, Theresa) Powers and Spencer (companion, Angie) Powers, both of Springfield; two grandsons, Aiden and Cole; one brother, Tyrone Powers, of North Carolina; one sister, Judith (husband, James) Monahan, of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County conducting military honors.
