PAWNEE — Vernon LeRoy Lytle, 85, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at his daughter's home in Springfield. He was born Dec. 19, 1936, in New Plymouth, Idaho, the son of Glen E. and Jannie M. Davis Lytle. Vern married Nancy JoAnn Edwards on Sept. 1, 1961, at the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy, in 2012; two sisters, Betty Dearmont and Dorothy McCormick; three brothers, Clay, Lloyd and Calvin Lytle; and an infant sibling. Vern was a member of the Pawnee Assembly of God Church, where he was active as a member of the church board and the Sonseekers senior group, with the Royal Rangers and with the church's bus ministries. He loved his church family, as well as Southern Gospel music. Vern was a U.S. Navy veteran. He owned Vern's Chatham 66 Garage in Chatham for over 30 years and delivered the State Journal-Register to rural Pawnee for more than 30 years. He was a hard worker and generous with his time, talents and resources. Vern is survived by one daughter, Robin E. (husband, Gibb) Vinson, of Springfield; one son, Lamoin E. (wife, Debbie) Lytle, of Milford, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Jessica, Jacob, Sarah, Shane and Tucker; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Schlunsen, of Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Glen Lytle, of Pawnee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vern's family will meet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee, with Rev. A.B. Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pawnee Assembly of God Church, 1001 Eighth St., Pawnee, IL 62558.
