Pawnee — Virginia Faye Day, 80, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Monday, March 16, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Virginia was born July 20, 1939, in Xenia, the daughter of Luman M. and Gertrude D. Parrish Sunderland. She married George E. Day Jr. on Dec. 5, 1959, in Springfield. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 1982; three brothers, Don, Bob and Bill Sunderland; and five sisters, JoAnn, Phyllis, Wanda, Sue and Ila Marie. Virginia assisted her daughter with her daycare service in Pawnee and retired from Casey's General Store in Pawnee as a pizza cook after 11 years of service. Virginia enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and spending time with her grandkids. Virginia is survived by two daughters, Mona L. (husband, Tom) Simpson and Loretta L. (husband, Larry) Welsh, both of Pawnee; one son, George A. (wife, Kathy) Day, of Pawnee; six grandchildren, Scott (wife, Mary), Danielle (Ben), Kristin (Jordan), Hailey, Jordan (Christa) and Christopher (Sidney); eight great-grandchildren, Emily, Ainsley, Elissa, Braxton, Brynley, Landon, Ethan and Mason; one sister, Helen Fatheree, of Xenia; three brothers, Ed (wife, Patty) Sunderland of Edinburg, Howard (wife, Phyllis) Sunderland of Taylorville and Jim (wife, Beverly) Sunderland of Xenia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia's family will have a private graveside service with a celebration of life service at a later date. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
