Wells Stewart Marshall Jr. (Stew), 94, of Springfield, Illinois formerly of Park Ridge, Illinois, died Monday, May 30, 2016, in Springfield, Illinois. Stew was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Wells Stewart and Phyllis Price Marshall. He married Jeanne Killmer on July 26, 1946 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Stew was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis Mary Palmer. Stew spent his career at Honeywell before retiring in 1984. He possessed a sharp mind and keen sense of humor. He and Jeanne raised three amazing children and nurtured them with wisdom, love and their example of living a life by caring for their family and their community. They would have been married 70 years this July. Stew made this world better by his service to family, church and country. Stew graduated from Edison High School in 1939. During WWII, he served with the 34th Infantry Division, 151st Field Artillery Battalion in North Africa and Italy, where he received a battlefield commission and was awarded the Bronze Star. He served stateside during the Korean War and retired from the service as a captain. He and his wife, Jeanne, lived for many years in St. Anthony Park (St. Paul), Minnesota. There they raised a family and attended St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where Stew served in many leadership positions, including senior warden and treasurer. In 1968, the family moved to Park Ridge, Illinois. He and Jeanne were members of St. Mary's Episcopal Church for 48 years. At St. Mary's, Stew served as senior warden, financial secretary and as a member of numerous committees. He was the consummate churchman. Stew leaves behind his wife, Jeanne K. Marshall, of Springfield; a daughter, Mary J. (Jim) Scheider, of Springfield; two sons Wells S. (Mary) Marshall III, of Warren, Oregon and David K. ( Dominic Wolocko) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a brother, Charles (Phyllis) Marshall, of Sun City West, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Concordia Village chapel in Springfield. Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, Illinois, is serving the family of Wells Marshall Jr.
