Pawnee – William C. "Bill" Sandidge, 97, of Pawnee, Illinois, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at The Christian Village in Lincoln. Bill was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Springfield, the son of Walter E. and Cora E. Taylor Sandidge. He married Alvora L. Tuxhorn on June 23, 1946, at the Pawnee United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Theodore, in 1968; his infant daughter; five brothers, Maurice, Robert, Taylor, Stu and Greg; and two sisters, Eilleen and Rosemary Sandidge. Bill graduated from Pawnee High School in 1942. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean War, and achieved the rank of master sergeant. Bill worked for the Anderson Concrete Pipe Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1983. He also worked as a long-haul truck driver for several years, at Seiz Farms in Pawnee and as a funeral associate at Roarick-Davis Funeral Home and Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee for more than 25 years. Bill and Alvora's family was designated a Gold Star family after their son Theodore's death during the Vietnam War. Bill is survived by his wife of 74 years, Alvora, of Pawnee; one daughter, Danna D. Abner, of Tovey; one grandson, Aaron C. (wife, Kendra) Abner, of Mount Zion; and one brother, Gary A. (wife, Carolyn) Sandidge, of Pawnee. Bill's family will meet friends from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at noon Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at the Pawnee United Methodist Church in Pawnee, with the Rev. Chuck Kurfman officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, including wearing masks and observing social distancing. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee. The Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to any veterans' organization or charity.
