Pawnee — William "Bill" Kenneth Brookman, 90, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at his home in Pawnee. He was born Sept. 20, 1933, in Litchfield, the son of Kenneth L. and Vera M. Sackett Brookman. Bill married Elaine Sue Thrasher on Sept. 20, 1980, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffrey Brookman, in 2005; one brother, Darrell Brookman; and three sisters, Jean O'Dell, Barb Davis and Dona Hermsmeyer.

Bill graduated from Litchfield High School in 1951, and he was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for the Illinois Secretary of State Driver Services for 20 years, retiring in 2005. He also was a member of the Service Employees International Union. Bill loved spending time with his family, golfing, bowling and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sue, of Pawnee; three daughters, Deborah J. Pepelea of Terre Haute, Indiana, Kimberly A. (husband, Larry) Keffer of Wilsonville, Illinois, and Tonya R. (husband, Jeff) Packenham of Pawnee; five grandchildren, Matthew (wife, Natalya) Pepelea, Samantha (husband, Clint) Kuchar, Victoria (husband, Tyler) Hopper, Alexa (husband, Jud) Sieber and Gage Thompson; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill's family will meet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee at a later date.
